Nick Templeman, your Guide at Campbell River Whale and Bear Excursions

Here at CRW&BE we intend to make sure your trip of a lifetime exceeds all your expectations!

As an owner/operator I am very passionate about my work, and will do my very best to ensure your day with me will be the highlight of your vacation.

I have grown up on the Inside Passage on sailboats my whole life, and have been an Eco-Tour/Whale watch/Grizzly bear guide, and Captain for 14 years out of the Campbell River area. Tugboat work for the past 7 years during the winter/spring, have allowed me to explore the entire East Coast of Vancouver Island from Victoria, Vancouver areas to N/W, past Port Hardy. Also recently I spent a season in Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, Whale watching/Bear guiding.

At CRW&BE, we are offering a full service, personalized excursions for small groups of up to 6 passengers. Our 7 passenger Ford Excursion SUV allow us to easily access any area on the North/South Island, or West Coast. Predominately we will use this ability for trips up island to Telegraph Cove/Port McNeill. In the summer there is a high percentage that the resident Orca population stays in the upper Johnston Strait/Robson Bight Ecological Reserve area. This can be a 3-4 hour boat ride some days one way. Trailering the vessel up and launching gives us access to these areas faster, it also allows us more time in the area, which is often busy with Humpback Whales, Resident and Transient Orca populations, and some of the most beautiful scenery on the East Coast of Vancouver Island. And be warm, dry (as can be!), and refreshed for your Whale Watching experience!

Throughout my 20+ year career in the Eco Tour, Whale and Bear viewing industry locally I have seen quite a few changes. one of the biggest changes I think is the turn away from the smaller more intimate tours. Most companies will try to get the most passengers aboard the vessel they can, and be locked to a schedule no matter what the wildlife says. This tends to take the personal touch away from the tour. Where CRW&BE differs is the smaller scale, more personal touch. Staying at 6 passengers allows a more intimate experience for my clients. I enjoy this lifestyle/job and it shows in the client feedback that I have received over the years. Job#1 for me is customer satisfaction, as this leads to the best customer satisfaction and advertising ever!

Look forward to having you aboard for your adventure of a lifetime!
